The Silver+ Finish
The Silver+ Finish
Silver ions, or silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), have attracted much attention in the epidemiological field and have found use as an antiseptic and antimicrobial agent against bacteria. Additionally, silver nanoparticles have opened up a completely new way to combat a wide range of bacterial Pathogens.
AgNPs are impregnated into the medical grade synthetic material of the mask through a complex dipping process. Silver Ions bond to tissue proteins of bacteria which causes structural changes in bacterial cell walls. Once the cell wall integrity is damaged the permeability increases which results in cell death.

The BloodGuard is a chemical finish that is applied onto a desired fabric. This finish gives our fabric haemophobic and hydrophobic properties. These properties alter the surface characteristic of the durable synthetic exterior of our products, preventing blood and other liquid pass-through.
WASHING INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BLOODGUARD
The manufacturer allows for approximately 40 wash cycles for the blood guard.All fabrics finished with a blood guard should be washed gently in a cool wash with minimal rubbing and harsh cleaning products. Gentle washing will significantly extend the life of the blood guard.

Breathetex 140WH (140P or C110P) is one of the current components of the shaped N95 mask. This filter is used as the centre layer of our mask and is sometimes teamed with an additional Breathtex layer to achieve a higher filtration efficacy.

Fibertex Nonwovens has developed a versatile component – Adhetex 40A90NP0 – which is designed to improve the filtration efficiency of protective face masks and to also extend their safe storage period. By utilising premium, high-efficiency Fibertex nanofibre layers in the production of protective face masks, end-users can expect to reach N95 and FFP2 level of protection.

The filters that we use
We use the Breathetex filter range and the Adheretex Filter.
The filters themselves are tested but not certified. The filter and the mask are TOGETHER certified to a specific rating. All our masks are currently in certification and the certificates will be released shortly. We expect our Breathetex filter range to be rated for industry and public use, while the masks using Adheretex will be rated for medical use. We are also able to use locally manufactured Spunbond and Meltblown to create disposable filters that fit into your reusable / washable mask.

Our masks provide the employer with an economic solution to the prevention transmission of the virus.
Wearing a mask in the workplace can be enforced – i.e. the workplace can be a safe place where contraction of the virus is not a problem.
The functioning of our economy is not reliant on healthy employee choices, but rather on behaviours enforceable within the workplace.
The greatest spin off in this situation could be the reduction of the transmission of TB as it becomes less of a stigma to wear a mask.

From the end of April, we will be in a position to supply our medical staff with reusable masks that are:
Antimicrobic and blood guarded on the outer layer of fabric.
Fitted with a filter that is now being made locally under licence in South Africa.
This filter has been proved to filter out 97% of particles and will be rated as a N95 / surgical mask.
Available in a variety of fits to best suit the application.
Easy to source with a continuous supply.
Cheaper than buying disposables.
Do not need to be disposed of, which is very expensive.

The standard mask has elastic that fits around the back of your head in a closed loop, and then through a channel on the sides of the cheek. When this elastic is pulled gently, it ruches to close the opening on the sides.
